New York, NY – The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) is pleased to announce Donn R. Chatham, M.D., as the new president of the organization. Dr Chatham, who previously served on the AAFPRS Board of Directors for six years, will lead the world’s largest specialty association that represents over 2,700 facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons across the globe. The physician is board certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Otolaryngology and has been in practice for nearly twenty-four years, with offices in both Louisville, KY and New Albany, IN.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead such an impressive and prominent organization like the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery,” states Dr. Chatham. “The AAFPRS is made up of highly-skilled surgeons that I am proud to call my peers. I look forward to heading the organization this year with so many advances in the field and keeping our promise of quality patient care and safety.”
During Dr. Chatham’s tenure as president, one of his major initiatives will be to raise awareness around the AAFPRS’ “Trust Your Face to a Facial Plastic Surgeon” campaign, a program designed to educate consumers about choosing the best surgeon for their specific needs.
“Your face is one of your most important attributes,” says Dr. Chatham. “Whether patients choose to undergo a facial plastic surgery procedure for aesthetic or medical purposes, it is important to choose a skilled and trained surgeon. The members of the AAFPRS have all completed approved, post-graduate specialized residencies and often undergo additional year-long AAFPRS fellowships in facial plastic surgery.”
Dr. Chatham is also an active participant in FACE TO FACE, the AAFPRS’ non-profit organization which provides complimentary consultations, surgery, counseling and support to victims of domestic abuse who otherwise would not be able to afford reconstructive or facial plastic surgery treatment. Moreover, Dr. Chatham is with involved the organization’s international programs which have enabled him to offer his medical expertise and services to patients in other countries, as well.
In addition to his responsibilities with the AAFPRS, Dr. Chatham is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery as well as a member of the Kentucky Medical Association, Indiana Medical Association, Jefferson County Medical Society, American Medical Association, and served as president of the Floyd County Medical Society in Indiana and chairman of the Floyd County Board of Health for several years. Furthermore, Dr. Chatham is currently a Clinical Instructor at the University of Louisville Medical College, Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery in Kentucky, as well as a Senior Advisor for the American Board of Facial Plastic Surgery, and serves as an examiner for their annual certification exam in Washington, DC.
Dr. Chatham graduated from Georgetown College in Kentucky and earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He completed his internship at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and conducted his residency at the University of Tennessee Department Of Otolaryngology. Following a one year AAFPRS approved fellowship with Dr. E Gaylon MeCollough in Birmingham, AL, he returned to his home area and began practice. He is married to Janet, a pharmacist, and they have 2 children.
