The American Academy Of Facial Plastic And Reconstructive Surgery Welcomes New President, Dr. Tom Wang

Alexandria, VA (September 10, 2011) — The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Tom D. Wang, M.D., as President. As President, Dr. Wang, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon at the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), will represent more than 2,700 facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons throughout the United States. Prior to his role at OHSU, he served as the Chief of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for six years.

Dr. Wang steps into this Academy role at an important time as the AAFPRS Foundation is in the midst of launching a capital campaign called Many Faces of Generosity. The goal is to raise a minimum of $4 million during the next year with donors having the option to fulfill pledges over a five-year period.

“One of my priorities for this coming year will be the Many Faces of Generosity campaign,” said Dr. Wang. “This critical initiative will serve our members by providing programs and services that ensure educational excellence and will support our humanitarian programs by providing resources and increasing public awareness. This campaign will position the AAFPRS to meet the needs of today, tomorrow and the future.”

In addition to treating patients in private practice, Dr. Wang is heavily involved in teaching medical students and residents, and actively participates in research on facial plastic surgery-related issues. He has been invited to speak both nationally and internationally about cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Wang’s works have been widely published in medical journals and textbooks. He is certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the  American Board of Otolaryngology.

“My main areas of interest in facial cosmetic surgery are in rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation, including endoscopic facial procedures,” said Dr. Wang. “I feel that specializing exclusively in facial plastic surgery allows me to emphasize and refine the art of facial cosmetic surgery and take it to a higher level.”

Dr. Wang earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois and also completed his Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery residency at Northwestern. He pursued a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at OHSU.
