Your eyebrows influence symmetry, frame your eyes, and set the expression for your entire face. Are your eyebrows making you appear bright, happy, and young? They can and they shouldanalyze your brows and find out what options you can take advantage of to revamp your look for optimal beauty.

Too overpowering
Your eyebrows should enhance your eyes, not over power them. A high-arched eyebrow is a sign of youth. If your eyebrows appear too thick or too close together, they can make you look unkempt and older than you are. Your brows should extend from the inner corner of your eye, peak at the outer edge of your iris, and end at the outer corner of your eye.

A simple cosmetic solution to tame their appearance is to reshape by waxing, tweezing, and trimming. Permanent removal can be achieved through laser treatments and electrolysis. Make an appointment with an aesthetician. It is worth it to get an expert opinion on what is the most flattering shape for your face. Eyebrow waxing is not expensive; depending on re-growth, it should be done every two to three weeks.

Quick tip: If your eyebrows are having a bad hair day, apply hairspray to a toothbrush and comb your eyebrows. The hairspray will smooth the hair and keep it in place.

Too many wrinkles
Wrinkles between the eyebrows are caused by contracting muscles in the forehead, the corrugator and procerus muscles. A minimally invasive, quick solution is to have BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. Small injections of the purified protein are put into those muscles, blocking the nerve impulses that trigger the muscle contractions. The result is a smooth, improved appearance between the eyebrows that may last between four to six months.

Quick tip: Do not forget to remove the stray hairs between your eyebrows for a clean and refined look.

Too low
The aging process can cause your forehead skin to sag and your eyebrows to lower over your eyelids. This creates a scowl or angry appearance.

You may be a good candidate for a browlift. Small incisions are placed just above the brow or in a wrinkle crease. Excess skin is excised, the underlying tissues are tightened, and the incisions are closed. An endoscopic browlift uses an endoscope to perform the surgery, and thus the incisions are much smaller. The result of a browlift is raised brows and smoother skin.

A forehead lift is more extensive than a browlift due to a larger treatment area.

Incisions are placed in the hairline, excess skin is removed, and the underlying tissues are tightened. The eyebrows are raised and the skin is smooth. The upper portion of the face is rejuvenated.

Another option is blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery. This procedure removes excess skin, fat, and muscle from both upper and lower lids, which will open up the brow area. This can be performed alone or in combination with a browlift or forehead lift.

Quick tip: Schedule a consultation appointment to find out from your physician what your optimal procedure would bethis will save you time, especially if you think your brows are beyond the quick fixes.

Too little
If your eyebrows are sparse due to over-tweezing or aging, you may want to consider micropigmentation, or permanent makeup. Hypoallergenic pigments are placed under the dermal layer of the skin, creating a soft and natural shadow of color. The brow is well-defined and especially designed for your features. A nonpermanent solution is to apply a brow pencil or shadow to the brow to create a fuller appearance.

Quick tip: When using a brow pencil, apply it with quick little strokes to mimic the appearance of hair.

Trends
Eyebrow trends have ranged from thick to thin to nearly nonexistent. In the 1930s, thin and high eyebrows were in. Brows transformed to full and straight in the 1950s. In the 1960s, Twiggy brought back the pencil-thin, barely there brows. Then in the 1980s, it was back to bushy and thick. Today, natural and neat revailsalthough you can still see the extremes and everything in between. Where do you fall? It is best to leave these extreme looks for the fashion runways, and instead aim for a natural, flattering shape that brings attention to your eyes.

A great eyebrow position and shape can make an incredible difference to your face. Beautiful brows will open up and frame your eyes and can take years off. Don’t delay in getting them into shape; you will be surprised by how much a great brow can revitalize your appearance.
