Over five million women are affected by domestic violence in the United States annually and over one million require medical treatment.  Statistics show that woman is battered every 9 seconds by a current or former partner in the United States.  To combat these incidences, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) joined forces with the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) in 1992 and created FACE TO FACE: The National Domestic Violence Project. Through FACE TO FACE, the AAFPRS works with shelters nationwide to facilitate professionally-assisted psychological healing before pro-bono surgery begins.

“The AAFPRS was the first surgical group to take action to end the cycle of domestic violence,” comments Dr. Vito Quatela, President of the AAFPRS. “FACE TO FACE aims to end the cycle of abuse by providing education and alternatives to those in need by providing individuals with the opportunity to overcome the physical limitations placed on them by circumstances beyond their control.

As of today, FACE TO FACE has completed nearly 2,000 surgeries. To help the AAFPRS grow this number and assist survivors of domestic violence break the abuse cycle, please join Dr. Gordon on Sunday, October 21st from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at The Retreat at Split Rock, 539 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT.
