Time to pucker up! Getting the perfect pout for the ultimate day of romance takes some work. But as any celeb (or Real Housewife) knows, lip enhancement can go terribly wrong. So forget the trout pout and go for more subtle, kissable lips.
“Our lips age just as we do, and they begin to lose their definition and plumpness. A range of both surgical and nonsurgical techniques like fillers are available to safely and effectively get younger lips back. The result is a refined, contoured mouth and lip that blends into the patient’s natural features and doesn’t make them look like a cartoon character,” says Stephen S. Park, MD, Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery President.
Options to restore full voluptuous lips range from injectable fillers, implants, and surgical lifts. The quickest, most popular treatments are fillers because they can be done on your lunchbreak and require minimal recovery with limited swelling or bruising. Collagen or hyaluronic acid fillers include Perlane, Radiesse, Juvederm, and ArteFill. Facial plastic surgeons are especially excited about new FDA-approved Restylane Silk, a hyaluronic-acid based injectable that plumps lips and fills in lines around the mouth. It also contains the pain-reliever lidocaine to make injections more comfortable. The treatment is being rolled out in plastic surgery offices as early as January.
If you’re in a bind and that kiss is just hours away? For a temporary fix, use a lip scrub to soften lips, moisturize, and apply a bold lip color. Or take it one step further and smooth on a lip plumper. The mildly irritating ingredients stimulate blood flow in lips to add fullness to your pout, while their glossy finish gives of an illusion of plumpness.
Now don’t worry about the kiss. You’ve got this.
