Revealing Secrets: Answers to your most frequently asked beauty questions
Everyone wants to know how to improve their appearance, from reducing puffiness to plumping thin lips and receiving a facelift, your most frequent beauty questions will be answered. Additional topics include age spots, crow’s feet, dark under eye circles, attractiveness, and more.
How do I decrease the puffiness under my eyes?
There are different treatment options depending on the cause of puffiness. If you are lacking sleep and retaining water around the eyes, besides the obvious remedy of getting more rest, lay down with a moist, cold washcloth over your eyes for 10 to 15 minutes. Another trick is to moisten two tea bags with cold water and rest them on your eyes. The tannin in the tea may help tighten the skin and reduce the puffiness.
For persistent bagginess of skin caused by aging, you may want to consider blepharoplasty. This surgery removes excess fat and skin from the lower and upper eyelids, leaving the skin around your eyes smoother and younger looking.
How can I plump up my thin lips?
Soft-tissue fillers, such as collagen, fat, or hyaluronic acid, can be injected to plump up thin lips. There is no downtime associated with this procedure; however, results are temporary. If you are looking for a permanent solution, you may consider a synthetic implant that is inserted beneath the skin. A third option is a lip lift. This procedure shortens the distance between the bottom of the nose and the top of the upper lip to give the appearance of greater fullness.
What can I do to remove age spots?
Age spots, also called liver spots or sunspots, are flat patches of increased pigment usually caused by sun damage. Depending on the extent of damage, your physician may recommend microdermabrasion or laser resurfacing to remove the outer, damaged layer of skin. Chemical peels may also be used to fade age spots. After treatment, the result will be a supple, smoother layer of skin.
How can I reduce crow’s feet?
Crows feet are tiny wrinkles that radiate from the corner of your eyes. They can be treated with an injectible filler to plump up the area and soften the wrinkles. Fillers are temporary and will require repeated treatments. Botulinum toxin, BOTOX®, can be injected under the skin to paralyze the muscles in the face that pull the skin and cause wrinkles. The resulting smooth skin lasts from three to six months. Laser resurfacing may also be used to treat crow’s feet. It works by penetrating the outermost layer of skin and is absorbed by deeper layers where it stimulates collagen production.
How can I improve the appearance of scars on my face?
Scars that are raised or bumpy may respond to a resurfacing technique. In laser resurfacing, the laser emits powerful bursts of high-intensity light that vaporize the scar tissue with little or no damage to surrounding areas of the skin. Another option is microdermabrasion (a facial sanding technique). On the other hand, if the scar is depressed, your physician may inject dermal fillers, such as collagen, to raise the scar.
How can I get rid of the dark circles under my eyes?
As we age, the skin around our eyes starts to thin which causes the blood vessels to become more apparent, i.e., dark circles. Concealers that are yellow-based or green-based will counteract the blue of the under eye circle. Be sure to choose a concealer that is hypoallergenic, fragrance free, opaque, and waterproof. Sometimes the dark circles are due to excess pigment in the skin. Lasers, creams, and skin peels may be used to lighten the skin. Avoid applying eyeliner or mascara to the lower lashes so that you do not draw attention to the under eye area.
Can I get a facelift and still look natural?
The modern facelift is not about pulling the skin as tight as it will go. This procedure removes excess skin and repositions the underlying tissue and muscles. The signs of aging are reduced by shaping the neck area, reducing jowls, and refining the jaw line. The result is a younger looking you, with dramatic improvement in the lower two-thirds of the face.
How can I improve the profile of my chin?
You may be a good candidate for a chin implant. It improves bone structure and supports sagging, soft tissues. Chin augmentation can bring harmony to your profile and distinguish your jaw line.
What is a photofacial?
Using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, a series of treatments is performed over three-week intervals to improve the overall tone and texture of the skin. Patients who suffer uneven pigmentation, sun damage, or rosacea may benefit from this minimally invasive treatment. There is no recovery time.
How can I make myself more attractive?
Renovate your lifestyle by eating healthier, exercising more, and drinking plenty of water. Cleanse, moisturize, and protect your skin (use a moisturizer that also has a sun protection factor of at least 15). If you take good care of yourself, you will look and feel better.
