GLOW FOR THE HOLIDAYS: Cosmetic Treatments are the New Stocking Stuffer

The holidays are a time for giving, and what better gift than self-care and confidence? From rejuvenating skincare to subtle cosmetic enhancements, more people are choosing presents that help their loved ones look and feel their best. According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), the holiday season is one of the busiest times of year for cosmetic treatments, as patients take advantage of time off to recover and start the new year refreshed.

“December and January are always especially busy in our offices,” details AAFPRS President Anthony Brissett, MD, FACS. “Many patients schedule procedures during the holidays because they have time off work to recover. It’s a practical way to combine self-care with the convenience of a break, ensuring they can heal comfortably without interrupting their professional or personal schedules.” The new year can come with the desire to have a new look.

“In recent years, our AAFPRS facial plastic surgeon members have seen cosmetic treatments and treatment gift cards become a popular gift choice,” adds Dr. Brissett. “People are looking for presents that promote confidence and well-being, not just material items. A treatment can be a thoughtful way to show someone you care about how they feel as much as how they look.”

Whether you are giving yourself a new look or sharing the gift of youth with a friend or family member, follow theAAFPRS’ need-to-know tips before selecting a surgeon:

TIP #1: EDUCATE YOURSELF
The best patient or Santa is informed. Do your homework on procedures and treatments before visiting the surgeon so you are armed to have an informed conversation when you get there.

TIP #2: SELECT A SPECIALIST
When you select a facial plastic surgeon you are putting your trust, face or loved one in that physician’s hands. It is imperative that the surgeon you choose is highly credentialed to ensure the best possible outcome. Select a board-certified physician, who specializes in plastic surgery of the face, head and neck

TIP #3: BEWARE OF ONLINE DEALS
While it may be tempting to get a discount on aesthetic procedures, exercise caution and avoid blindly purchasing online deals. AAFPRS members caution consumers to stay away from these offers, citing them as potentially unethical and inappropriate without prior evaluation and consultation from a licensed healthcare professional. In addition, the AAFPRS strongly warns against the rise of do-it-yourself (“DIY”) injections or treatments purchased online or through social media. Without a trained medical expert, patients put themselves at serious risk for infection, scarring, skin necrosis, and permanent disfigurement. Injectable treatments should always be safely administered by a licensed, board-certified physician specializing in plastic surgery of the face, head and neck—or under the direct supervision of such a physician. These treatments should never be performed outside a medical setting or by an untrained individual, as the risks far outweigh any perceived convenience or cost savings.

The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is the world’s largest specialty association for facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. It represents more than 2,200 facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons who perform plastic surgery of the face, head, and neck, and the majority of rhinoplasties, throughout the world.www.FaceMD.org. For more information, or to schedule an interview with an AAFPRS spokesperson, please contact the Academy’s public relations firm, KELZ MEDIA at 646-450-5359 and ask to speak to Patty – patty@kelzmedia.com, @kelzpr
